HOW DO I BECOME A REAL ESTATE BROKER?

A salesperson must successfully complete one additional elective course from the Articling Segment of the Salesperson Registration Education Program and the Real Estate Broker Course.

To become a registered broker, one must apply, provide supporting documentation and appropriate fees, if the following qualifications are met:

  • Permanent Canadian resident
  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Registered and employed as a salesperson for a minimum of two years, or have equivalent experience
  • Completed and passed courses and written examinations with a minimum of 75 per cent, as approved by the Registrar (final exam must have been completed no longer than one year preceding application)

Obtaining broker qualification does not necessarily require salespeople to become owners. In fact, many individuals remain legally recognized as brokers with their employing brokerages and perform listing or selling functions in the trading process monitored under the guidance and direction of a Broker of Record.
