Real Estate Salesperson Program

Real estate is a regulated profession in Ontario, so all salespersons and brokers are required to register with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). In Ontario, you need to complete pre-registration education courses and examinations prior to applying for registration with RECO. After successfully completing these courses and examinations, you have 12 months from the completion date of your last examination to apply for registration as a salesperson with RECO. Effective September 2019, pre-registration education courses have been delivered by Humber College on behalf of RECO.

Step 1: Pre-Registration Phase

The Pre-Registration Phase is the first phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program. Learners must complete this first phase before applying for registration with RECO. The Pre-Registration Phase is your first step towards becoming a real estate salesperson in Ontario. You must complete this first phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program before applying for registration with RECO. This phase comprises of 5 courses, 4 exams, and 2 simulation sessions which must be completed sequentially as shown below. You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete pre-registration.

  • 2 Simulation Sessions
  • 4 Exams

Note: In fact, you have 6 exams to pass in total.

Requirements

To register as a salesperson under the Real Estate Council of Ontario and trade in real estate in Ontario, the following qualifications must be met:

Minimum of 18 years old

Complete the pre-registration courses

Apply for registration with a registered brokerage within 12 months of completing Pre-Registration Segment

Complete and submit approved forms from the Registrar, along with the assigned fee
